Winning Her Over – Alexa Rowan

Last week dear Ana (@anacoqui) reviewed on her blog, Alexa Rowan contemporary debut, Winning Her Over. I liked her review so much that I bought the book right away (limited time at $0,99!). I’m so glad I took on her recommendation, I had a great time reading it.

What is it about?

Brenna Nakamura – massage therapist – meets Calvin Wilcox – hot shot attorney – when she goes to his hotel room to give him a massage. He lives in DC but is in Boston for a two-week trial. The massage session occurs normally, but the attraction between them is strong. Cal asks her if they could go out for a coffee but she refuses because she doesn’t date her clients. Later that week they meet again – outside her workplace – and Cal asks her to go to dinner with him. This time, she accepts and their relationship begin. Friends-with-benefits at first, but things get a bit more complicated than that. Continue reading “Winning Her Over – Alexa Rowan”

Pushing Her Luck – Audra North

Pushing Her Luck is a great story of two people finding love and themselves in a place/situation they never thought they would.

Samantha Meyer is an heiress who had just lost her grandmother – the only family she has ever known. now, she has to decide what to do with her life, if going to work in her late grandmother’s organization in New Jersey or something else. Deep in her heart, Sam knows she doesn’t want to be the chairman of this great company, she wants to more for her life, not a work who consumes every free time of her life, something meaningful 9like what her Gram did), but also something that would allow her to have a life of her own.

In this quest to find herself and also her family roots, she goes to Ireland to search for a necklace that was very dear to her grandmother that was left buried in her old home there. And that leads her to the doorsteps of Riordan Faraday, our grumpy, surly hero. =)

Riordan is a painter/art teacher, who has been taking care of his mother and brother since his alcoholic father deserted their family. And he is tired of it. He feels like he has no time for himself and can’t see a way to move on with his life, because in his head, his mom needs constant care and the only way for him to be loved by his relatives is if he does something for them. He doesn’t believe in freely given love or affection. Yes, the poor thing has huge childhood traumas.

When Sam enters his life, he can’t believe how someone can give so much love and affection to people she barely know and not expect nothing in return. She brightens his life so much that he become attracted to that light, to her. Sam in the other hand, is attracted to Riordan too. She sees right away that he needs someone to take care of him, to love him for who he is, and also she realizes that he can also be this rock she needs so much in her life.

They’re attracted to each other from the start, their banter and interactions are humorous and entertaining, their romance is very sexy and heartfelt. I liked how the secondary characters played a good part in helping Sam and Riordan to find their HEA, but in no way overshadow the romance in the story.

If you’re looking for a lighthearted romance you have here a great option and I’m definitely reading the next books in this series.

The Mistake (Off-Campus #2) – Elle Kennedy

I love this series, but I don’t know why I took so long to read this book.

I remember that when it came out last year, I read some reviews that made me think I wouldn’t like it, so I put it aside.
A couple of weeks ago, I saw that it was on sale, so I bought it and put it up on my TBR. I started reading it last Friday and it took me a while to warm up to the story. I didn’t like Logan very much, his attraction to Hannah was silly – IMO – and also, I didn’t like the way he treated Grace. I stopped reading and only made myself read it again yesterday. Once I started I couldn’t stop reading.

As I got to know more of Logan and Grace’s lives, I warmed up to them. I loved seeing the evolution of their relationship.
Logan’s gestures were adorable and they showed how serious he was in his quest to win her back. Grace was an endearing heroine too, and I loved how she grow more confident and sure of herself throughout the story.

The Mistake is a fun and sexy read, the secondary characters are a great addition – seeing those boys together, not only making fun of each other but actually caring and supporting one another is always good stuff.

Chase Me (Paris Nights #2)- Laura Florand

Laura Florand never disappoints and in the new installment of her Paris Nights series we have another heartwarming story that will give you all the happy sighs.

Reasons why I loved this book:

1. Violette – She’s a hoot! Strong, fierce and self-resilient, she doesn’t need a man to be happy. Vi has been making her own way in the kitchens since she was 15 years old, showing the world – and a lot of pigheaded men – her worth. She fights for what she wants with everything she has and is not afraid to put herself in harm’s way to protect the ones she loves. Continue reading “Chase Me (Paris Nights #2)- Laura Florand”

True North – Liora Blake

True North was my first Liora Blake’s book and definitely won’t be the last. I loved her writing style and the characters’ struggles felt real to me. It was a lovely surprise.

Kate Mosely is a widow who lives in a small town in Montana. She lost her husband in a car accident where she was the driver and had a hard time letting go of her grief and guilt. Actually, she still has some down times, but she’s moving on with her life and now is a best-seller writer and also work at the local paper. Continue reading “True North – Liora Blake”

Suddenly One Summer – Julie James

First of all, let’s take a moment to appreciate that cover. Gorgeous, isn’t it? It makes me want to stop everything I’m doing and go to the beach, I love it. Do you know another thing I love? This book. I’m not gonna say it is her best book – I liked It Happened One Wedding better, for example – but it is still so good, smooth and romantic, you can’t help but like it. Searching for Beautiful (Searching For #3) – Jennifer Probst

The 3rd book in the Searching For Series was a bit of a surprise to me. I thought we’d have Arilyn as the heroine, but Ms. Probst choose to tell us the story of Genevive, Kate’s best friend. On the previous books, every time I saw Gen, I knew something was not right and I was curious to know what she was hiding. It turns out she did was in deep trouble. Her fiancé, David, was a bully and slowly was taking away all the joy and spontaneity of Gen’s life. He wanted to control her, trying to make her the “perfect” bride and surgeon.
